my real name isn't feris. feris is just what the copier printed on my temp badge.
i do nights in the copy room at the hoshimi building. 4th floor. the 9th floor
has been closed since 2009, when every light in the building went out at 03:14
and only the vending machine kept humming.
09/28 found a scan in the 9F-B copier tray. woman in a blazer, office lights,
page count 1337. nobody has a key to 9F. i put her on the shrine
because she looked like she'd been waiting for someone to look.
10/02 started the hit counter at 1337. felt right.
10/03 made a ringtone. 8-bit. i don't know where the melody came from.
10/08 guestbook entry from "aoi_9F" at 03:14. she closed the toner door.
i hadn't told anyone about the toner door.
10/09 went up the stairs to 9. the door was unlocked. the lights were on.
a cup of coffee on a desk, still warm. a sticky note: "stay a little longer."
10/10 the hallway video is in my folder. created 2009-10-12. i was a kid in
2009. i didn't film anything. she waves at 0:00.
10/11 a purple thing in the parking lot. it sings the ringtone back to me but
better. it calls itself bembem. it says the jingle "has the shape of a door"
and that it came to take us home. "us" meaning her. and maybe me.
10/12 i asked aoi if she wants to go. she said she wants me to go home and sleep.
i asked if she'd be alone. she said "stay a little longer."
so i keep the site up. the site keeps her company. you keep the site up.
if the site's still up and i'm not, play the ringtone at 3:14.
i'll keep the lights on. — feris
